The UBC Mood Disorders Centre (MDC) Research, Education, Awareness, and Care Hub or MDC REACH is a specialized psychiatric program located within the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health and Vancouver Coastal Health.
Our mission is to improve the lives of people living with mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder) through creating and translating scientific knowledge into innovative clinical care. To achieve this mission, MDC REACH is built on four pillars:
- Research – The MDC through the University of British Columbia (UBC) is home to both world-renowned and up-and-coming clinician-scientists who operate diverse and multimodal programs of research. Get to know our Researchers or learn about and participate in our Research Studies.
- Education – The MDC trains medical and graduate students and holds educational events for both health care professionals (Continuing Professional Development, CPD) and the public. Knowledge translation is embedded in everything we do, ensuring scientific discovery is accessible to all and has real impact on clinical care and society at large.
- Awareness – The MDC is a leader in reducing mental health stigma and increasing awareness and patient engagement. Read and subscribe to our bimonthly eNewsletter.
- Clinical service – The MDC outpatient clinic operates within Vancouver Coastal Health and provides assessments and short-term follow-up to patients who are referred by a family physician (catchment area: Vancouver, North Shore, Richmond inclusive) or psychiatrist (from anywhere in BC). MDC REACH is affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia; the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute; the UBC Institute of Mental Health; and the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health.
